Thought for Today - Have You Received the NEWNESS of the SPIRIT?

Thought for Today:
The law kills – but the Spirit brings life.

The purpose of the law in the Old Testament was to show us that we were sinners and in need of a Savior. The Apostle Paul said that he was alive, but when the law came and showed him he was a sinner – he died.

We can see that in our own lives – without a speed limit and fines for speeding – we wouldn’t know speeding could kills us!

God wants us to know the Savior – Jesus. He sent His Only begotten Son to save us from our sins. Had He left us in our sins – we could never have a relationship with Him because He is holy and righteous.

With sin in our lives we can’t enter into God's presence.  But, because Jesus shed His blood to pay the price for our sins – we can be forgiven and made holy and righteous in God’s sight. The Father sees the Son when we are “IN CHRIST” – He doesn’t see our sin – He sees the sacrifice and payment Jesus paid for us!

Now, because of what Jesus did we can be "born-again – born of the Spirit.” When we are born of the Spirit, we are made ALIVE in our spirit – which is the real you. We ARE a spirit, we live in a body and we have a soul (mind, will and emotions).

If we try to be good enough through works – according to Isaiah are as "filthy rags” to God because they can’t save us – only Jesus, our Savior can do that.

Isaiah 64:6 NKJV
But we are all like an unclean [thing], And all our righteousnesses [are] like filthy rags; We all fade as a leaf, And our iniquities, like the wind, Have taken us away.

After we are born of the Spirit, we can now walk in the “newness of the Spirit.” What that means is we have God’s nature, desire, strength and power to be able to do the things that are pleasing and right to do. We no longer have to struggle - but we have received the "newness of the Spirit."

My desire is to do His desire, because I love the Lord so much!

Romans 7:6-9 NKJV

6 But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not [in] the oldness of the letter.

7 What shall we say then? [Is] the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, "You shall not covet."

8 But sin, taking opportunity by the commandment, produced in me all [manner of evil] desire. For apart from the law sin [was] dead.

9 I was alive once without the law, but when the commandment came, sin revived and I died.

Thought: Ask Jesus to save you from your sins, fill you with His Spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and to help you to walk in the Spirit and live for the Lord each day – in the “newness of the Spirit.”
