Thought for Today: How to Overcome Grief
Holy Spirit Series - Part 13
As a Bereavement Coordinator for Hospice, I helped people through the grief process - shock, denial, blame, anger, and acceptance. There are many people that get stuck in the process.
Many people stay in the blame or anger stage; and as a result they can’t cope. They turn to alcohol, drugs or other unhealthy ways to deal with their loss.
There is a much better way! The Holy Spirit is the Great Comforter. He wants to help us!
John 16:7 KJV
Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
The Lord wants to help you overcome your grief. That does not mean you forget that person, place, animal, job or thing – it just means that He will help and comfort you through the process and bring you out into a healthy place - where you can live again! A place where you are free to be you again – unstuck from that place of blame and anger.
Many people become angry at God for what happened. The great thing is when you ask the Holy Spirit to help and comfort you – you will find that God has been there all along - willing and ready to help you!
You may never understand the “why” it happened, but you will understand and have confidence that the Lord has a “bigger picture” and one day you’ll fully understand. God is for you - always stay on His side.
Thought for Today – If you have experienced loss in your life – ask the Holy Spirit to be your Helper and Comforter. Have a conversation with the Lord and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help each and every day. He’s been waiting for you to ask Him.
